Florence has become one of my favorite cities in the world! It’s rich history, it’s beautiful art, and vibrant culture blew me away in 2022 and I cannot wait to return later in 2024. Here are the Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Florence that I can’t wait to visit again -including 100%, dedicated gluten-free restaurants.
Is Florence Gluten-Free and Celiac Safe?
YES! YES! YES! If you’re celiac you are safe in Florence because there are so many dedicated gluten-free restaurants in Florence.
Why is Florence (and all of Italy) so gluten-free and celiac friendly?
Italy is home to the Italian Celiac Association (AIC) which is supported by the Italian Government. The AIC has been working for over 30 years on raising awareness, helping create laws, and training restaurants on the significance of celiac disease.
The AIC goes in and trains restaurants across Italy to cater to gluten-free needs responsibly and safely. Through training and workshops, AIC educates chefs about gluten-free cooking techniques, cross-contamination prevention, and ingredient awareness.

Sgrano is the highest-rated gluten-free restaurant in Florence! It is the perfect lunch spot that has a variety of sandwiches. Their focaccia is unbelievable! But I’m not a big sandwich eater, so it’s not my favorite restaurant in Florence.
2-minute walk from Piazza di Santa Croce
Owned by the same family who owns Sgrano above, this location focuses on homemade gluten-free pasta!
4-minute walk from the Academy Gallery
Risotteria Melotti is not my favorite dedicated gluten-free restaurant in Florence, but it certainly has the best risotto you’ll find! But make sure everyone in your party wants risotto – they have no pasta dishes.
4-minute walk to the Strozzi Palace
5-minute walk to Palazzo Pitti
If you’re looking for Vegan options in Florence this will be your go-to place! This restaurant is dedicated vegan and gluten-free!
5-minute walk to the Ponte alla Carraia
Grom is a Dedicated Gluten-Free gelato shop with tons of locations all throughout Italy including two in Florence! I love that their is a location in the train station so you can grab some refreshing gelato while you’re waiting for a train!
6-minute walk to Basilica di Santa Maria Novella
32-minute walk from Porta San Niccolo
This little cafe is not near central Florence, but if you are staying east of center city this will be great for you.

The Best Gluten-Free Friendly Restaurants in Florence, Italy
Ciro & Sons has arguably the best gluten-free pizza in Italy! If you’re craving pizza it’s the first restaurant I would head to in Florence!
3-minute walk to Ponte Vecchio
If you’re looking for a unique, sit-down meal this is the place for you! It is one of the most recommended gluten-free friendly restaurants in Rome for their extensive gluten-free menu with some unique dishes! I haven’t tried it yet, but their Ragu sauce with wild boar is a highly recommended item.
3-minute walk to Piazza della Signoria
Even though Mama Eat is not dedicated gluten-free they are the 2nd safest option! That’s because they have a separate gluten-free kitchen to prevent any cross contamination! Almost their entire menu can be made gluten free. Mama Eat does an incredible job of providing to gluten-free diners
Also known as Trattoria Da Garibardi, this restaurant is another great gluten-free friendly option for dinner. They have a number of gluten-free options including pasta dishes, fresh bread with bruschetta, and gluten-free desserts.
Arguably the 2nd best gluten-free pizza in Florence with a number of gluten-free desserts as well. Their pizza crust will be one of the best you will ever have!
This restaurant is not the highest-rated gluten-free restaurant in Florence, but it was one of my favorites! I enjoyed the best steak of my life while sitting outside directly at the Duomo! Nothing says “Florence” more than a Florentine steak while enjoying the incredible beauty of the Renaissance.
