The Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Bath, U.K.

The Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Bath, U.K.

If you’re traveling to Bath, England you’ll find plenty of gluten-free options for you to enjoy! But these spots you can’t miss! I’ll share with you 3 Gluten-Free Restaurants in Bath You Need to Try and some of the ways you can enjoy Bath, England.

Two of these restaurants were the best meals gluten-free meals I had in the United Kingdom!

Let’s get to it!

Where to Stay:

I honestly had a very unpleasant stay in Bath. My husband loved the hotel we were at, I was not a fan. I will NEVER use my blog to bad mouth a business and hurt someone’s livelihood unless I thought they were being unsafe or discriminatory.

The hotel we stayed at just wasn’t my cup of tea. However, I will recommend to you one of my favorite hotel brands with a location in Bath.

Apex City of Bath ($$$ – 4 stars)

The Apex City of Bath Hotel is located right in the center of Bath. I love Apex hotels and this location can’t be beat.

It is a 4-star hotel so it is expensive, but there are plenty of more affordable accommodations throughout the city. Click on the map above to view Apex, then you can see other hotels and their prices in the area via Google Maps!

Getting Around:

We arrived from London to Bath via train. We left from London Paddington Station and the train ride took approximately an hour and a half with trains leaving every half-hour to hour.

(Click here for more train info!)

We took an Uber to our hotel because of our luggage, but after that we walked everywhere we went.

Bath is a large city but if you stay in the city center or close to it you will be able to walk everywhere you want to go – including every place mentioned in this guide!

If you’re looking to save money, you can also get a hotel near the train station (Bath Spa Train Station) that way you can walk to and from there.

3 Gluten-Free Restaurants:

1. Dough Pizza

I’m going to get some hate for saying this, but Dough Pizza has the best gluten-free pizza in the world. Even better than Italy!

Dough BLEW my mind! My husband (who is not gluten-free) even ordered a different gluten-free dough so I could try it and he was even impressed.

Yes, you read that right – they have more than 1 type of gluten-free dough.

Dough serves FIVE different types of gluten-free doughs that you can have your pizza on.

  • Gluten-Free
  • Gluten-Free Hemp
  • Gluten-Free Tumeric
  • Gluten-Free Seaweed
  • Gluten-Free Purple Corn

I ordered a regular gluten-free pizza while my husband ordered the gluten-free turmeric.

Once you know which kind of dough you would like they have plenty of pizza-style options you can choose from.

Dough doesn’t play around with toppings! They have some incredible combinations you can choose from.

I had a traditional Margherita Gluten-Free Pizza while my husband ordered the Meaty Feast Gluten-Free Pizza (on turmeric dough).

I can’t emphasize it enough, this was the best gluten-free pizza I ever had!

I had to double-check with the waiter to make sure it was gluten-free because it was truly incredible.

It was clearly homemade and made with very fresh ingredients. (I believe I substituted the traditional mozzarella on my pizza for buffalo mozzarella.)

My husband’s turmeric gluten-free pizza was fantastic! It was so full of flavor, and I couldn’t believe the turmeric dough. It went perfectly with the Meaty Fest.

I don’t think I would order the turmeric dough with the Margarita Pizza, because Margarita has such a simple (yet delicious) flavor. But for all the different flavors on the Meaty Fest, the turmeric dough complemented it perfectly.

We will be going to Bath again just so I can return to Dough Pizza!

2. Cote Brasserie

Nestled right in the heart of Bath this French restaurant is such a treat!  Cote exudes French elegance with its cozy ambiance and warm lighting.

I highly recommend making a reservation to dine here – especially for dinner. You can make the reservation directly on their website.

The menu is a culinary journey through France, offering classic dishes prepared with precision and flair. For someone who is gluten-free, you’ll be able to enjoy most of the menu!

This was the first time in years I was able to enjoy French Onion Soup and it was fantastic! All the dishes came out with a flag that marked it gluten-free.

After the soup I had the filet mignon with a side of fries because they had a separate fryer for them!

I finished the meal with a decadent Gluten-Free Chocolate Mousse. Each bite was a taste of authentic French cuisine, and the impeccable service only added to the experience.

Cote Brasserie is the perfect spot for a romantic evening or a leisurely lunch, and I can’t wait to return to savor more of their delicious gluten-free offerings – especially the French Onion Soup!

3. Dos Dedos (Dedicated Gluten-Free)

Celiacs especially will love Dos Dedos Tacos and Tequila Bar because it is dedicated gluten-free!

Dos Dedos is located in the north part of the city but only a 6-minute walk away from The Roman Bath Museum.

All of their tacos are served on corn tortillas so they are naturally gluten-free! They have many vegan-friendly options as well.

Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Edinburgh

Gluten-Free Italian in Edinburgh

La Locanda

La Locanda in Edinburgh is my favorite gluten-free friendly restaurant in Edinburgh. The food was incredible, authentic, and I felt very safe eating there

La Locanda is located right at the heart of Edinburgh and fairly easy to get to on foot (just be prepared to walk uphill!) It is a tiny restaurant but that makes it feel so quaint!

You’ll need a reservation ahead of time so make sure to visit their website to make a reservation by clicking here.

Not many items are listed on the menu, and the menu changes every few weeks. But almost every item can be made gluten-free as well as dairy-free! We ordered the Arancini (which are made in a separate fryer!), I ordered gluten-free Ragu, and then the chocolate torte cake for dessert.

My favorite part of the meal was that the gluten-free pasta was homemade! This is a rare find and I appreciated the effort of the chef to make their gluten-free food as authentic as their regular dishes.

If you’re gluten-free, La Locanda is my top recommendation for the best gluten-free restaurant in Edinburgh!

Gluten-Free Afternoon Tea in Edinburgh

The Colonnades at the Signet Library

I absolutely love afternoon tea in the U.K – especially when I can find gluten-free friendly high tea!

Afternoon tea in the UK is a beloved tradition that dates back to the early 19th century. It typically consists of a selection of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, cakes, and pastries, all served alongside a pot of hot tea. The idea behind afternoon tea was to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner, providing a light meal to keep hunger at bay until supper time.

We found exactly that at gluten-free afternoon tea at The Colonnades located in the historical Signet Library. The Signet Library, nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, boasts a rich history dating back to the early 19th century.

Originally built as the meeting place for the Society of Writers to the Signet, a prestigious legal society, this magnificent Georgian building has witnessed centuries of intellectual discourse and cultural gatherings.

Today, it continues to enchant visitors with its timeless charm and serves as the backdrop for memorable experiences like the gluten-free afternoon tea at the Colonnades. We were fortunate enough to go around Christmas and the library looked beautiful!

In order to book Gluten-Free Afternoon Tea at The Signet Library you need to email Colonnades@thesignetlibrary.co.uk in advance. They recommend you give two dates that you are available for it.

I put the subject as “Gluten Free Afternoon Tea” and wrote:

Hi There! My name is Skye and my husband and I would like to make a reservation for Afternoon Tea for 2. We will need 1 gluten-free tea and 1 regular tea. If you have it available we would like to make the reservation for ___________________ at ____________. If you do not have that day, we can also do _________________ at _____________. Thank you!

Sending this email does NOT confirm your reservation! They emailed us back telling us they had our second choice available. I then had to email them back to book our second choice. From there, they sent us an automated email and we had to click “Confirm” to confirm our reservation.

Trust me, the Gluten-Free Afternoon Tea is worth these steps!

Afternoon Tea comes in two servings, the first is a savory platter of different savory sandwiches and finger-foods. The second is a tray of desserts. It is a LOT of food! Do not eat before you go like we did thinking it would be light! We were so disappointed that we couldn’t finish all of the desserts and the desserts are the best part!

The first two photos below show some of the savory treats. We went at Christmas time so the whole menu was winter-themed! It was adorable! The middle picture shows my husband’s gluten menu on the left platter, and my gluten-free platter on the right.

For the most part, our trays were the same, except mine was served on gluten-free bread!

This was one of my favorite experiences that we did in Edinburgh and I cannot wait to return for Afternoon Tea at The Colonnades at the Signet Library!

Gluten-Free Pancakes in Edinburgh

Stack and Still Edinburgh

We lucked out! By chance, our hotel was right across the street from Stack and Still Edinburgh! This charming little cafe had the best gluten-free pancakes I’ve ever had!

I was a little worried about eating here because it is such a small, shared kitchen. But, after reading the Find Me Gluten Free reviews I had to check it out.

We ate here once in person. Then the day before we left I got a to-go order so I could heat it up and have breakfast before heading to the airport at 6 am.

Both times I ordered gluten-free pancakes with one of their suggested toppings as well as BBQ Loaded Tater Tots for some extra protein.

The food was exceptional! I was so thankful to enjoy such great gluten-free breakfast food. The price was exceptionally reasonable as well!

The service was a little slow, but we went during Hogmandy week and every place was packed – including here! We didn’t have to wait, but while we were dining there many people came in and had to wait 15-30 minutes for a table.

But Stack and Still is well worth the wait for any gluten-free foodie!

Gluten-Free Nepalese Food

Solti Lounge & Restaurant

Solti Lounge and Restaurant serves Nepalese food – flavorful cuisine from Nepal in the Himalayas. The spices and flavors of Nepalese cuisine are naturally gluten-free and will delight any gluten-free foodie!

Solti has an impressive Find Me Gluten Free rating and an even more impressive Google Reviews rating at 4.7 stars.

I did not get sick from eating at Solti, however, they did not originally understand that with a “gluten-allergy” you cannot eat food that has been in a shared fryer with gluten.

We were originally told that my husband’s appetizer was gluten-free and was marked (gf) on the menu. But it was made in the shared fryer. (I believe he ordered the Chicken Pakora, but I could be remembering wrong).

The only gluten-containing dishes are in their appetizers. All of their entrees are entirely gluten-free and marked so on their menu.

Solti entrees are all marked Gluten Free. Gluten Free Nepalese Food Edinburgh

Our meal was very flavorful and stood out for its impressive taste. It made me wish we had more Nepalese restaurants in NJ!

I highly recommend a trip to Solti in Edinburgh for amazing gluten-free flavors. Just make sure you make a reservation. Solti fills up fast!

Edinburgh Street Food (A surprising gluten-free find!)

We went to church on Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Afterwards my husband was hungry and we stumbled upon Edinburgh Street Food!

Edinburgh Street Food is a large, open food court with bench-style seating. There were so many different food options for him to choose from. I figured I wouldn’t be able to eat here, but they had a completely gluten-free and vegan restaurant option – Antojitos!

You order from your phone and a server comes and delivers your food to you. My husband ordered Japanese food while I ordered 3 gluten-free and vegan tacos.

The tacos had amazing flavor and were very filling for being vegan! I was a little worried about cross-contamination since there are many different food stalls here. However, since Antojitos is its own stall and is 100% gluten-free I had no issues! We will definitely be returning!

Edinburgh has proven to be a haven for those who follow a gluten-free diet, with its wide range of options and delicious offerings. From traditional, gluten-free afternoon tea to international flavors, Edinburgh has something for every palate.

By following our guide to the best gluten-free restaurants in Edinburgh in 2024, you can truly indulge in all that this beautiful city has to offer without worrying about your dietary restrictions.

So next time you visit Edinburgh, make sure to check out these amazing restaurants and savor the flavors without any worries!

On this trip, we also visited Dublin, Ireland because the two countries are pretty close to each other! Be sure to check out my Gluten Free Restaurant Guide to Dublin as well!

Gluten-Free Guide to London

Gluten-Free Guide to London

Hello All! Thank you for checking out my Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide to London. I was lucky to visit London in the fall of 2022 for our Honeymoon! I spent hours researching to make sure our Honeymoon was “Celiac Safe” for me. That’s why I compiled this list of the best gluten-free restaurants to save you time and stress while planning your trip to London!

So here is my list of the best gluten-free restaurants in London!

(This post may contain affiliate links which if you make a purchase I would receive a small commission at no additional cost to you)

Where to Stay in London

Figuring out where to stay can be the most stressful part of planning for me! I always try to choose accommodations that is close to gluten-free food to try to avoid getting “Hangry” while on vacation.

The best area of London for anyone with a gluten intolerance to stay in would be the Tower of London area – Tower Hill! While we were not in the heart of London, we had 3 different highly rated, gluten-friendly restaurants within a 5-minute walk of our hotel! There was also an Underground station right next to the entrance of the hotel. I highly recommend staying in Tower Hill (which is right by London Bridge)

CitizenM Tower of London

We stayed at CitizenM Tower of London. CitizenM is my husband’s favorite hotel chain!
CitizenM Tower of London.
40 Trinity Square, London EC3N 4DJ, United Kingdom

The vibe of CitizenM’s is very mellow in the lobby and especially on the rooftop bar. While the rooms are very high-tech and have an incredible view.

CitizenM is an incredible hotel but it is not a budget hotel with rooms averaging anywhere from $150-$300 per night.

Budget Options

There are a few other hotels in this area with all different price ranges! You want to be within a 10-15 minute walk of Tower Place West where there are two great gluten-friendly options I will talk about below!

Tower Place West
West, 5BU, 1 Great Tower St, London EC3R 5BT, United Kingdom

Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in London

Gluten-Free Near the Tower of London

As I said above, I 100% recommend you stay in the Tower of London (also called Tower Hill) area so that way you have at least 2 great, gluten-friendly options within a short walk of your hotel.

Wagamama – Tower of London

Wagamama is a quick-service Japanese restaurant chain with locations worldwide (including a few in the U.S.).

Wagamama has very strict protocols for customers who are celiac to avoid cross contamination (and yes they know of celiac disease)! I’ve eaten at a few Wagamama locations and have always had a great experience. But always look up the exact location on Find Me Gluten Free. I’ve read that some Wagamama locations are not as safe as others.

Because of its safety and how close it was to our hotel, we went to Wagamama twice!

I would say this is definitely an accurate rating!

When you arrive tell the hostess you need a gluten-free menu and they will bring you one.

When you go to order your server will ask you “Are you gluten-free by choice or celiac?” If you say you are celiac the server will get the manager to come take your order. Then your order will be cooked by the managing chef!

They will also put a sticker on your placemat to mark that you have a gluten “allergy.”

What to Order at Wagamama

Hands down, my favorite dish at Wagamama was the appetizer “Ssambap” aka chicken lettuce wraps.

They were incredibly flavorful and also very spicy so if aren’t a fan of spicy proceed with caution! We got these both times we came here.

Our first time here I then had “shu’s ‘shiok’ chicken.’ This was the perfect dish to have on a cold rainy Fall day. It warmed me right up! It was full of flavor and a good-sized portion. I highly recommend it!

The second time we went I ordered the lettuce wraps as well as the grilled chicken ramen. I also asked for a side of the sauce that came on the lettuce wraps to add to my ramen.

As you can see the ramen does not come with a ton of flavor so I thought the spicy kimchee sauce on the lettuce wraps would be the perfect edition!

The ramen was incredibly plain and I would not recommend ordering it since there are plenty of other gluten-free options to choose from. However, if you are really craving ramen make sure to get the spicy kimchee sauce from the lettuce wraps to add to it. It turned up the flavor and spiciness of the dish and made it pretty good!

Wagamama is a great option for a quick lunch or a small bite to warm up on a cold day! I highly recommend it for the precautions they take!

Zizzi – Tower of London

Zizzi was another restaurant that was only a 5-minute walk from CitizenM. Because it was so close and gluten-friendly we also went here twice!

Zizzi’s Tower Hill has a great Find Me Gluten Free rating. However, not all locations have such a high rating. This is part of the reason why I recommend staying in the Tower of London area! Zizzi’s is an “Italian Restaurant” chain with locations throughout the U.K. I would not consider it a real Italian restaurant, but a nicer and more gluten-free friendly version of Pizza Hut.

I read on Find Me Gluten Free that there was a gluten-free menu…that is not quite accurate. Unfortunately, the gluten-free menu is a pages-long binder that lists the allergies of each item on the menu.

I’ll give you the short version – a lot of their menu items can be made gluten-free, including the meatballs, pizza, pasta, and especially the calamari!

All gluten-free dishes are served with a sticker that says “Non-Gluten.” I loved that! So you can be sure that you received the correct order.

For an appetizer we ordered the calamari which was good, but different than American style because it was served with ranch and not marinara sauce. It was good, but definitely would have been better with marinara!

For entrees, on our first visit, I ordered a gluten-free margarita pizza. The second time, I ordered a pesto risotto with chicken, asparagus, and zucchini. That was a rotating menu item and not currently on the menu.

The gluten-free pizza was slightly above average but dry. The risotto was also just above average with a good flavor. However, their food is nothing to write home about. But more importantly, I felt confident and safe eating there. So I recommend Zizzi as a quick and easy gluten-free meal.

On there dessert menu were a few items that could be made gluten-free. However, when we were there they were out of most of them. That was definitely a disappointment.

We ordered Mascarpone and Black Currant Ice Cream and it was literally life-changing. I still think about that ice cream! But it was sadly, freezer burnt.

If you were not gluten-free I would say skip out on Zizzi. Even if you are gluten-free I wouldn’t take an Uber just to come here. However, if you’re in the area and want a quick, gluten-friendly meal this is a good option!

Near Covent Garden

Afternoon Tea at Indigo at One Aldwych Restaurant

The Indigo is a Dedicated Gluten-Free Restaurant located at One Aldwych Hotel in Covent Carden that serves breakfast, afternoon tea, pre-theatre, and a dinner menu. This dedicated gluten-free restaurant is in the heart of central London!

Both the hotel and the restaurant were absolutely gorgeous. The One Aldwych Hotel is a 5-star hotel. If you can afford $600 per night then it is well worth staying here to have a beautiful, dedicated gluten-free restaurant in your hotel.

We were there for their Afternoon Tea service. Unfortunately, they no longer serve this type of Afternoon Tea, but instead rebranded it as “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” Tea.

I’m absolutely devastated because I would return to London specifically for that Afternoon Tea. It was INCREDIBLE. But fortunately, many of the dishes on the new menu seem to be similar to what we had .

The service at the Indigo was without a doubt 5 stars. Our server was knowledgeable, personable, and lovely to interact with. He even informed us that the honey served on one of the desserts was harvested from a beehive on the roof of the hotel! He truly was a fantastic waiter.

The Afternoon Tea included two cups of tea, 5 savory dishes, and all the desserts shown below served with 2 scones. We were there for 2 hours.

The desserts were the best things we ate at Afternoon Tea! The scones were unbelievable and were served with 3 fresh, homemade spreads. The other desserts were equally as incredible and managed to be fantastic, sweet treats without being too sugary.

Overall, this was our FAVORITE dining experience in London. It was very pricey, so do take a look at the price tag to see if it is worth it for you.

Gluten-Free Food Near Soho London

Heddon Street Kitchen (By Gordon Ramsay)

Heddon Street Kitchen is owned by the renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. We are huge fan of Gordon Ramsay on TV so we knew we had to check out one of his restaurants while we were in London.

Unfortunately, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay was WAY out of our price point. So we found Heddon Street Kitchen instead.

Heddon Street Kitchen is known for its vibrant ambiance, delectable contemporary European cuisine, and a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of tastes and preferences.

Out of every restaurant we went to on our honeymoon, this was our least favorite. It was not bad by any means, but Gordon’s restaurants tend to be overpriced for good but not great food.

However, I will say I always feel safe eating at Gordon’s restaurants.

We started with the Burrata appetizer, which was served quite differently than traditional Italian Burrata. We then split the Bone-In Porterhouse which was very good with Chimichurri, Bearnaise, and Peppercorn sauces. We finished the night with sorbet because that was the only gluten-free dessert offered.

The meal was good, probably above average. However, for the cost, I don’t believe it was worth it. However, I did feel safe eating there (which is always worth a few extra dollars)!
