Italy is incredibly celiac-friendlyDe because of the Italian Celiac Association (Associazione Italiana Celiachia – AIC). The AIC has been working for over 30 years on raising awareness, helping create laws, and training restaurants on cross-contamination.
The AIC goes in and trains restaurants across Italy to cater to gluten-free needs responsibly and safely. Through training and workshops, AIC educates chefs about gluten-free cooking techniques, cross-contamination prevention, and ingredient awareness.

My FAVORITE gluten-free bakery in Rome! They serve great pastries for breakfast (the cornetto is my favorite) and small bites and pizza for lunch. This is a great spot to get breakfast and sit outside, you’ll have an amazing few of the back of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

La Pasticciera (Gluten-free and lactose-free!!)
10-minute walk from Roma Termini
This is one of the few dedicated gluten-free and lactose-free establishments in Rome. This bakery sells pastries and is only open until 3 pm so it’s not an option for dinner. If you need lactose-free options this will be a great choice for you!
Celiachiamo Lab
17-minute walk from St. Peter’s Basilica
Celiachiamo Lab is a store you must experience at least once in Rome! It is a gluten-free bakery as well as a gluten-free grocery store.

Mama-Eat
Mama-Eat is not 100% Gluten-Free, however, because they have a separate kitchen that is dedicated gluten-free I wanted to include it in the list! Mama Eat (also known as Mama Eat Street Food) is my favorite restaurant in Rome! It is one of the best places to grab gluten-free food. I recommend their cacio e pepe as well as their bolognese! It is seriously one of the best gluten-free restaurants in Rome!

This gelateria is attached to Pizza in Trevi. The Gelato shop is dedicated gluten-free but Pizza in Trevi is not. It’s great having gluten-free gelato shops right by some of the best tourist sites in Rome!

Grom is the most famous dedicated gluten-free gelato shop in Italy. They even have locations around the world – with a number of locations throughout Rome! My favorite is the location in Termini Station. I always travel during the summer (which I don’t recommend!!) so it’s great to have a dedicated gluten-free gelataria while I’m waiting for my train.
