Modern Bread & Bagel – Englewood

Modern Bread and Bagel Sandwich

If you’re gluten-free, I’m sure you miss a really good bagel. And let’s be honest — most gluten-free bagels just don’t taste the same. That chewy, slightly crisp outside with a soft center is hard to replicate. Modern Bread & Bagel is the rare exception.

These are, without exaggeration, some of the best gluten-free bagels in the country. The texture, the flavor, the way they hold up to a proper sandwich — it finally feels like you’re eating a real bagel again. I highly recommend their breakfast sandwiches! I usually get a “G’Day Mate” on an everything bagel! Beyond bagels, they have incredible sandwiches and gluten-free treats, and many options are both gluten-free and dairy-free, which makes ordering so much easier when you’re looking for dairy-free options as well.

If you’ve been settling for “good enough,” this is the place that reminds you how much you’ve missed a good gluten-free bagel. It’s the kind of gluten-free find that feels a little life-changing — in the best way.

As always, I recommend letting your server know you have celiac and asking about their preparation practices, but it’s really nice to have a local spot where you can sit down and enjoy a “normal” breakfast without feeling left out. And sometimes, that simple pancake moment just hits the spot.

Everything Bagel – Paramus

If you’re craving that classic bagel shop experience but need gluten-free options, Everything Bagel is such a fun find. They offer gluten-free bagels and desserts, and honestly, the desserts alone are worth the trip.  I wrote more about how great Everything Bagel is below under “Desserts.” Scroll down and read more below. And that’s really what it is — an experience. It’s a lively, family-friendly spot that’s perfect for birthdays, weekend brunch, or when you just want something a little extra. As always, let your server know you have celiac and ask about preparation practices, but it’s so nice to be able to sit at the table and enjoy a stack of pancakes that feels just as fun as everyone else’s. Because brunch should be exciting, not stressful.

East Coast Burger Company – Ridgewood

If you’re celiac, you know that one of the hardest things to find safely is greasy comfort food — the kind you used to grab without a second thought. That’s why East Coast Burger Co. is such a game-changer. With a dedicated gluten-free fryer, ECB makes it possible to finally enjoy those crispy cravings again without the stress of cross-contact.

Rock’n The Grill – Glen Rock

When it comes to comfort food with gluten-free options you can truly feel good about, Rock’n The Grill stands out. This local favorite serves up all the hearty classics we crave, but what makes it especially reassuring for the celiac community is the personal connection behind it.

According to Find Me Gluten Free, the owner’s daughter has celiac disease — and as a fellow celiac, that immediately builds trust for me. When a restaurant owner is keeping their own child safe, you know they understand the seriousness of cross-contact and go the extra mile in the kitchen. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy comforting, satisfying food with an added layer of confidence and care.

With a dedicated fyer you can safely enjoy fries, their fried chicken sandwich, wings, and burgers. One reviewer states you have to check out their gluten-free gyros!

Famous Pizza – Paramus

For so many of us with celiac disease, pizza is the one food we miss the most. It’s incredibly hard to find a gluten-free pie that actually tastes like “real” pizza — crispy crust, great texture, and that classic cheesy bite. That’s why Famous Pizza is such an exciting find. Their gluten-free pizza comes impressively close to the real deal, and even better, they take safety seriously.

The owner has personally claimed the restaurant on Find Me Gluten Free and shared: “Our GF pies are stored in their own containers, we use dedicated pans for the pies and also have separate sauce containers to prevent cross contamination.”

That level of transparency and intention makes all the difference. When you can enjoy pizza that satisfies the craving and feel confident about how it’s prepared, that’s a win in the gluten-free world.

Known for its rich, comforting bowls and authentic flavors, Menya offers gluten-free options so you don’t have to miss out on this cozy classic.

While everyone on Find Me Gluten Free has had a positive experience here. If you have celiac, I recommend emphasizing to them that the broth needs to be gluten-free and the noodles have to be cooked in different water than other noodles.

Date Night

Medieval Times – Lyndhurst, NJ

Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ is one of the best date nights New Jersey has to offer! If you’ve never been, the dinner theater transports you back to the Middle Ages with a lively tournament featuring knights, horses, sword fighting, and plenty of crowd interaction. The immersive atmosphere—cheering for your knight, watching the jousting matches, and enjoying a themed feast together—creates a fun and unforgettable experience that goes far beyond a typical dinner.

For gluten-free diners, many guests have shared positive experiences on the Find Me Gluten Free app, noting that the staff is accommodating and familiar with gluten-free needs when notified in advance. Reviewers often mention that the kitchen can provide a gluten-free version of the meal and that staff members are helpful in explaining what is safe to eat. While it’s always best to inform the venue ahead of time, many celiac diners say they’ve been able to enjoy the full experience comfortably. The combination of a lively show and thoughtful accommodations makes Medieval Times a fun and inclusive option for gluten-free diners looking for a night out.

Sojo Spa

SoJo Spa Club is easily one of the best date spots in New Jersey. If you and your significant other are looking for a day together that feels both romantic and relaxing, this is the perfect place. Admission starts at over $100, with weekend pricing slightly higher and weekday visits a bit more affordable. There’s also a discounted rate after 5 p.m.

My husband and I are regulars, and we usually stick to the basic admission without any add-on treatments—we still find it completely worth the price. To really experience everything the spa has to offer, we recommend planning to spend at least six hours there so you can explore the different levels, relax in the various saunas and pools, and still have time to enjoy the dining options.

For gluten-free diners, SoJo has improved a lot over time. The first couple of times I visited, I reached out to ask about gluten-free food options and was told I could bring my own food. However, because outside food isn’t allowed inside the spa, I had to retrieve it from valet parking with a security guard escorting me to my car and waiting while I ate. It was safe, but definitely a little awkward! Thankfully, their gluten-free options have gotten much better since then.

During my last four visits, I’ve eaten there without any issues. I usually stick with their salads, their french fries (that are made in a gluten-free fryer!), smoothies, and their incredible tangerine sorbet, which is the perfect refreshing treat after a few hours of relaxing in the spa.

Everything Bagel

Everything Bagel in Paramus, NJ is a true gem for the gluten-free community. My husband actually drove more than an hour each way just to pick up desserts for me, and after trying them himself, he said they were absolutely worth the drive—even as someone who eats gluten regularly!

The pastries were incredible and instantly reminded me of the amazing Italian desserts I used to enjoy at the San Gennaro festival in NYC. From flaky pastries to rich desserts, everything felt nostalgic, indulgent, and like the kind of treats many of us thought we had to give up after going gluten-free.

What makes Everything Bagel even more special is the dedication of the owner to serving the celiac community safely. The bakery offers gluten-free bagels, pastries, cakes, and desserts, and they take cross-contamination seriously. As the owner explains, they use a dedicated toaster, knives, cutting board, and fryer specifically for gluten-free customers, and the staff always changes their gloves when preparing gluten-free orders.

That level of care has earned them an incredibly loyal following—it’s one of the most highly reviewed gluten-free spots I’ve seen in New Jersey, with over 150 five-star reviews. For anyone living gluten-free, this is the kind of place that proves you can still enjoy truly exceptional gluten-free bakery treats.
